Computer classes at John Ireland continue with great success! The students have all worked on new projects and activities and continue to both improve their computer skills and master new ones
Kindergarten has been working very hard on keyboarding and learning how the letters look on the keyboard. They recently completed their first Word document by creating Valentines. They were very excited to take them home.
First grade has been working on and showing great improvement when creating Word documents and then adding appropriate clipart, they created great documents about John Ireland School. The have also loved working in Education City to improve their Math skills. Keyboarding is reviewed frequently so that they become comfortable and knowledgeable of the placement of letters on the keyboard.
Second grade has continue to work to make fantastic Word documents including clipart. The projects they did for CSW were fabulous! They work very had at improving their keyboarding skills and have loved working to improve their Math skills in Education City. Each of them has been working on levels to challenge themselves and they are doing Great!
Third grade also did great projects on what they love about John Ireland School in Word. We working on researching on the computer, choosing a topic and determining which of the information we found is useful and accurate. ( Stressing the wikipedia is not a reliable source). We did this with ideas for the Science Fair and currently with Ecosystems in conjunction with Mrs. Lynch’s lesson.
Four and Fifth grade have been demonstrating great work in PowerPoint, they have created them on such topics as: one of the 50 states, the branches of our government and they just completed great ones on the topic of John Ireland School and how we live the Catholic Schools Week theme. Both grades will soon be introduced to Excel and how it can be used.
Sixth grade is currently loving M&Ms! They are working on an Excel project that compares that variety of colors they come in according to the size of the bag. After their spreadsheets are finished they will great graphs to present the findings. A Word document will accompany their graphs and information for the document will have to be gathered from the M&M website and the Mars website. The final stage of the project will be a business letter to the company explaining the experiment, their results and any questions they may have. Oh course the M&Ms were enjoyed after their data was gathered!
